ANNUAL ARBOR DAY EVENT VOLUNTEER

TREE PLANTING AND PRUNING
Description
Planting of trees, including digging some holes. Pruning of trees. Usually each Wednesday morning and some Saturdays mornings during May through November.

Shovel, wire cutters, utility knife, water jugs, hand saws, hand pruners, loppers, chain saws, pole saws, rake, gloves, safety equipment

TREE CARE
Description
Provide care and maintenance of trees. Installing mulch around trees. Assist with planting of trees. Assist with pruning of trees. Watering of trees. Usually each Wednesday mornings and some Saturdays mornings during May through November. Also during weeks of lower rain amounts during the summer (done during the weekdays).

Description
Publish, advertise and present Tree Lafayette volunteer opportunities. Attend social functions to present information about volunteering. Attend presentations to groups to present information about volunteering. Contact prospective and interested persons. Engage new volunteers. Connect new volunteers with appropriate Tree Lafayette persons to get them started. Schedule volunteers to meet existing and upcoming Tree Lafayette needs.

TREE COMMITTEE MEMBER
Description
Become a member of the Tree Committee. The Tree Committee meets monthly. The committee helps plan Arbor Day and the third grade elementary school plantings. They plant trees. Oversee outside groups and contractors that auger some holes, plant some trees, mark underground utilities, store some trees, and deliver some trees. They maintain and care for trees with pruning, mulching, and watering.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE MEMBER
Description
Become a member of the Education Committee. The Education Committee meets monthly. Through a classroom presentation, books and other educational materials donated to the classrooms, this committee helps many Lafayette third graders learn the value of trees. The classes plant one tree per year, per 40 students. They also do adult education. The committee also selects the recipients of the Preservation and Environmental Awards each year.

MARKETING COMMITTEE MEMBER
Description
Become a member of the Marketing Committee. The Marketing Committee meets monthly. This committee plans for Arbor Day, Earth Day, the Annual Meeting, and our Holiday Party. They send out the bi-annual newsletter, all news releases, and the Annual Report. They also select the Volunteer of the Year and promote the planting of a healthy community. They are responsible for Facebook and Twitter updates, maintaining the integrity of the Tree Lafayette brand, and the organization’s website. In addition, they champion all fundraising events.

DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEMBER
Description
Become a member of the Development Committee. The Development Committee meets monthly. This committee prepares and submits all grants and maintains the donor/supporter database. They send out renewals twice a year for funding, maintain the operational budget, and post daily income and expenditures. They also oversee the annual financial review and file Federal and State tax and business reports.
