History
 (formerly Lafayette Tree Fund, Inc.)

The Lafayette Tree Fund, Inc. was established in 1993 by Charter members Arlan N. Stavnheim, Rob Galbraith, Orvin Lindell,  David Lahr, William H. Baugh; Johanna Downie, and Rosie Lerner. Joni Heide, city forester, was the advisor.

In 2011, the Tree Fund’s Board of Directors celebrated raising  $49,006.  The Lafayette Tree Fund has raised $243,980 from grants and individual contributors and planted 1,408 trees in major corridors and pruned 6,478 trees.

In 2006, the Lafayette-West Lafayette Urban Forestry Endowment was established at The Community Foundation.  We have raised more than $10,000 and we are ready to distribute the interest to neighborhoods that qualify for tree planting and maintenance. Apply at The Community Foundation under their grants program.

Tree Lafayette Endowment: Our urban forest will always need help. Urban trees attempt to live in a very hostile environment. Urban trees face cars, salt, dogs, man, bicycles, pests, diseases, oil, severe competition for water, nutrients, and oxygen. We will always raise funds yearly but to replace those trees that succumb to many of these stresses, we created an endowment with the Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette. For every $100 donated, CFGL will donate $25 or 25% of your gift. This gift is tax deductable so give generously. The board members plus Belinda Kiger are the founding members established December 20, 2011.
